A true symbol of hip-hop and sports culture, the history of this pair is as complex as it is full of details. Popular with both fans and longtime enthusiasts, the Air Jordan 1 is simply considered a must-have in the sneaker world. This silhouette, originally designed for the basketball court, was created in 1985 by Peter Moore, the very famous designer who also created the Nike Dunk the same year. With an architecture and design similar to the Air Force 1It was the very first pair to be marketed by the brand Air Jordan co-created by Michael Jordan and Nike. We note however that Michael Jordan was equipped a few months of the Nike Air Ship, the time for the designers of Nike to design the Air Jordan 1 that we know today. As on the original model, we find the famous winged ball more commonly known as "Jordan Wings" which served as a signature.
In terms of performance, Nike's Air technology has been used in the sole since 1985 to provide maximum comfort and support as well as enhanced ankle protection. For the record, the first version of this silhouette named Bred, in addition to being banned from NBA courts, was not really to MJ's taste, finding that the colours chosen were rather connotative: "They make me think of the devil" saidt.
If the model initially proposed in 1985 was a rather rising version, the brand with the Jumpman was not satisfied to remain on its assets and sought to go further in the development of two complementary models. An intermediate version called Air Jordan 1 Mid will be released in the early 2000s. Known to all, the Air Jordan 1 High is equipped with a rising construction on the ankle. This one knows a multitude of retro reissues and this, since its launching year. How not to mention the Air Jordan 1 Retro High Royal Toe or the Air Jordan 1 High Shattered Backboards 3.0 which have marked these last months.
The Air Jordan 1 Mid, offered to the public to offer a different style and in the continuity of the model OG, takes the same design but has a lower construction than its big sister, with a collar stopping at mid-ankle. This version has been widely put on the front of the stage since late 2019, especially with the Fearless pack and the highly acclaimed AJ1 Mid Maison Chateau Rouge. A model that gains popularity and knows editions taking back the colorways of 1985.
The Air Jordan 1 Low opts for a low profile, ideal for summer days or simply for those who like to vary in terms of sneakers. It is probably a success for Jordan who has accomplished the challenge of transcribing all its history in different versions of the model, leaving a wide choice for fans of Air Jordan 1 according to their preferences, the seasons and their current mood.
Since the rise of the retro versions in the 2000s, Jordan was largely focused on the edition of its model Highmodel, which is considered the premium model of its range. Generally, the Mid and Low versions could be found in large quantities in shopping malls, these models being more of an entry level of the Jordan 1 and as secondary models. But in recent years, Jordan Brand has made a real turnaround and made efforts to diversify its models. We note more and more colors on the Air Jordan 3 or the real revelation of these last years with the Air Jordan 4. This is actually verified in numbers: in 2016, of the 40 models offered, no AJ1 Mid was part of the collection and only 4 were AJ1 Low. On the other hand, in 2019, there were 35 Mid and 17 Low out of the 80 models launched.
Thanks to this turn by Nike & Jordan, we recently witnessed more limited versions of the Air Jordan 1 Low with notably the AJ1 Low Paris or the AJ1 Retro low Travis Scott. In addition, the retro colorways do not escape the low version, we find in particular the versions Royal Toe, Shattered Backboard or the UNC. An impulse highly appreciated by the community sneakers for which a wide choice of colors, shape and design are available!
