In 1998, Nike embarked on a new challenge and unveiled the Air Max Plus. Silhouette become emblematic in the catalog of the Swoosh brandcatalog, this Air Max had to get rid of several preconceptions. Born from a collaboration with Foot Locker, this Air Max Plus arrives like a UFO in the landscape of sneakers. Quickly become popular in Australia, the one also called TN or Shark has also become an icon. Only, unlike Australia, the Air Max Plus has, in France, quickly been categorized pejoratively as a pair of city.
Resulting from a joint work between Nike and Foot Locker (the two companies share the patents), the TN was designed by Sean McDowell in 1997. It is through a trip to Florida that the designer, newly arrived at Nike, drew his inspiration to imagine this model. Its aggressive shape has been directly drawn from the Florida landscape through a mesh upper with TPU details that recall the movement of palm trees.
Three original colors, released in 1998, Hyper Blue, Orange Tiger and Shark Grey have become a must when talking about the Air Max Plus.
While it has several names, Air Max Plus, TN or Requin, this silhouette released in the late 90s is finally only one. It's all about naming and which one suits the person talking about it the most.
Known for its aggressive look, the Air Max Plus is reminiscent in its clean lines of the Air Max 90 which gives an impression of speed at first glance. In the same idea of joining the features of the TN, the Air Max 98 reuses the mini Swoosh, discreet but terribly effective, present on the Requin since its release.
Even if it is not close to the TN in the upper, the Air Max 95While it is not close to the TN in the upper, the AM95 is close to its little sister in the sole. Compared to the models released before the Air Max Plus, the AM95 uses the same cushioning on the front part of the pair. The difference is in the back because of the new Tuned Air technology.
