TRENDY WOMEN'S SNEAKERS
The most influential brands in the sneaker market, such as the Air Jordan range, make a distinction between men's and women's models, not in the colours used but rather in the way the foot is shaped. This is more commonly known as "sizing". For women's sizing, the EU size does not change from a men's sizing, especially on the most popular sneakers such as the legendary Air Jordan 1.
It's also important to note that other brands such as New Balance or Yeezy have chosen not to make a distinction between men and women. The models are mainly unisex with a much wider range of sizes, sometimes extending to 47 1/3 on Wethenew. We don't take gender sizing into account, and we offer the same sizes on all our models, regardless of the brand.
OUR SNEAKER BRANDS FOR WOMEN
NIKE: DUNK & AIR FORCE 1
It all started in the early 80s, when Nike's creative teams wanted to integrate their Air technology into a basketball model. For this, the brand with the Swoosh called on Bruce Kilgore who created the Air Force 1. It was unveiled in 1982 and marketed at 80$. Its name was inspired by the famous plane used by the President of the United States and also echoed the technology hidden under the insole that provides better cushioning for players' trainers. This air bubble was a real innovation for its time. It made a big impression thanks to Nike's marketing, which made people believe that, with this model, trainer fans would be able to make spectacular jumps. To promote the trainers, the Swoosh brand called on six NBA players for the Air Force One campaign: Moses Malone, Michael Cooper, Jamaal Wilkes, Bobby Jones, Mychal Thompson, and Calvin Natt. Initially, Nike only wanted to produce the sneakers for two years and move on, but they were so successful that three Baltimore-based shop managers begged the manufacturer to supply them with AF1s due to their cultural impact and the demand from trainer fans, especially women. Today, it's a trendy design that appeals increasingly to female sneaker fans, especially the Air Force 1 Shadow and Air Force 1 Pixel. In 1985, the brand with the Swoosh called on Peter Moore, the footwear designer who designed the Nike Dunk Low. Initially designed for college players, the low-top sneakers were a runaway success in early 2020 with original colours and iconic collaborations. His limited-edition trainers are adored by fans of retro women's sneakers.
NEW BALANCE 550, 9060, 2002R & OTHERS
The Boston-based manufacturer, founded in 1906, experienced a surge of hype thanks to its collaboration with Casablanca on the New Balance 327 and the very popular New Balance 2002R by Salehe Bembury, who excels in the design of low-top trainers for women. But one collaboration, in particular, stands out: that with the New York label Aime Leon Dore. This alliance introduced a historic trainer from the brand, the New Balance 550. Originally released in 1989, the low top trainer designed by the iconic Steven Smith has been a runaway success since 2020. Its perforated leather construction and retro 80's basketball look appeals to many sneaker enthusiasts and the curious. It is available in several colours, and its vintage look adapts to all styles, especially for women. Teddy Santis, the man behind this success, was appointed creative director of the Made In USA range in 2021. He was behind the design of the brand's iconic models such as the New Balance 990, New Balance 991 and New Balance 992. These retro running sneakers are a real hit with women, thanks to the dad-shoe trend that is spreading, thanks to iterations by Joe Freshgoods and JJJound.
